This assignment was really hard for me. I realized how dependent I am on technology! I started the morning off strong and never checked my phone, stayed away from the computer, and all other electronics. I spent some great quality time with my kids and was totally focused on them without allowing anything else to distract me. I left my house later that afternoon to go study and quickly realized that studying wouldn’t be as easy without access to my powerpoint slides and the internet. I continued to stay strong and did reading from my book. After an hour or so I had heard multiple text messages come through my phone and it then rang twice. I couldn’t help but to check my phone to make sure my kids were ok and it wasn’t the babysitter calling about an emergency. After I caved in once it was really hard not to do it again! So much of our class material and resources are online and I really wanted to follow the powerpoints as I read the book and studied. I ended up taking my computer out and using it. In total I lasted about 6 or 7 hours and also managed to get my sister really annoyed with me for “ignoring” her texts from earlier that day. It was a big eye opener on how dependent we all are on technology. The quality time I spent with my family by putting my phone and other electronics away was really fun and we all enjoyed it. It made me realize I need to work on making a more conscious effort to be more present in the time I do spend with them and make time that is free from distractions and electronics.

Vancomycin

Vancomycin is an anti-infective that is used to treat serious and potentially life-threatening infections. It should be used cautiously in patients with renal impairment (dosage reduction required if Cc <80 mL/min) because the risk of toxicity increases with high, prolonged blood concentration. Nephrotoxicity can occur when taken with other nephrotoxic drugs such as aspirin, cyclosporine … Continue reading “Vancomycin”

Nephrotoxicity can occur when taken with other nephrotoxic drugs such as aspirin, cyclosporine and cisplatin. Patients should be monitored for albumin, casts, or cells in the urine or decreased specific gravity, CBC, and renal function periodically during therapy. It may also increase BUN levels. IV vancomycin is almost entirely eliminated through the kidneys.
